Web Hosting

What Is The Actual Technology Behind Web Hosting

The internet has become a central hub that can connect anyone in the world at any given time. One important feature of the internet is its ability to provide information in pages we know as websites. However, websites aren’t just born into the internet. Someone has to create them and it takes another a web host to put it up and make it available on the internet. Web hosts are the reason why websites are up and running and accessible to everyone in the first place, but how do they do this? Let’s take a look at the different ways hosting can be done.

Hosted Service

Let’s start off with the simplest way: hosted service. Simply put, a hosted service puts your website on top of a larger, already established website. This may be tricky to understand. Think of blogs. Blogs are, in a way, personal websites of thousands, if not millions, of people in the world who host their blogs up on websites such as WordPress or Blogger.

Many people turn to this service because it’s the easiest way to get a website out there. There’s no fuss in using a hosted service but unfortunately, there’s very little you can do from the technical point of view. You just have to use what those websites give you. For some, it’s enough while for others, it’s not.

Self-Hosted

This route may be the most difficult, but it’s for those who like doing things themselves. Self-hosting is completely doable and it theoretically provides you with the most freedom when it comes to web hosting. Self-hosting means that after you created your own website, assuming you created your own website, you put it up yourself. All you need is a server and an internet connection.

Although this might seem to be the best option, it’s only really available to those with the technical knowledge or for those willing to learn. However, if you can host your own website, you can pretty much do anything you want with it. Just make sure it’s alright with your internet service provider because it may be in violation of your terms and agreements with them.

Virtual Private & Dedicated Servers

This is for those who want top notch hosting service. Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and Dedicated Servers are the fastest and most powerful kinds of web hosting because of the level of dedication. When you rent out one server system, that is essentially what a dedicated server is.

A VPS, on the other hand, is somewhat like a dedicated server but only virtually like a virtual machine. Take note, though, that everything comes with a price and these servers come with a big one. To be able to be provided with the best of the best, VPS and dedicated servers are very expensive relative to the other methods. If this is something that is really needed, then it is worth the price.

Shared Servers

In contrast to VPS and dedicated servers, shared hosting is the more affordable and budget-friendly option. It’s called shared servers because hundreds of websites are being stored in the same computer or server. This type is the more convenient method for startups due to its price range and features offered. However, the shared nature of this server causes this type to be extremely slow.

Conclusion

Are you planning on setting up a website? There are different ways to reach your goal, so it is best to carefully review each option to see what best suits your needs and your current skills. Check out this this massive page on web hosting providers in India for more information.
