Vivo X100 Pro Redefining Smartphone Photography with ZEISS Innovation and Exceptional Performance

Vivo X100 Pro – A Revolutionary Leap in Smartphone Photography and Performance

In the ever-evolving landscape of smartphones, Vivo has consistently strived to push technological boundaries and redefine user expectations. The Vivo X100 Pro, launched in the latter half of 2023, is a testament to this commitment, presenting a harmonious blend of sleek design, groundbreaking photography capabilities, robust performance, and innovative features.

Design Elegance:

The X100 Pro, following the success of its predecessor, the X90 Pro, maintains a sleek and ergonomic design that departs from the conventional bulky forms seen in many contemporary smartphones. The device features a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display that seamlessly extends to the edges, offering an immersive visual experience. The front panel is adorned with a minimalistic arrangement, placing the power button and volume controls on the right, ensuring a clean and intuitive layout.

The rear of the device introduces a distinctive circular camera module, proudly displaying the ZEISS branding. This collaboration with ZEISS, a renowned name in lens manufacturing, underscores Vivo’s commitment to delivering a superior photography experience. Despite its slender profile, the X100 Pro incorporates an IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, adding a practical touch without compromising on aesthetics.

Upon initial handling, users may experience a slight apprehension about the device’s fragility, but this concern gradually dissipates as one acclimates to its feel. The taller stature of the phone poses a challenge for one-handed use, prompting a preference for dual-handed interaction. While not marketed as a rugged phone, the IP68 certification assures users that the device can withstand submersion in fresh water for up to 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1.5 meters.

Display Brilliance:

Complementing its design elegance is the X100 Pro’s striking 6.78-inch AMOLED display, offering a super definition resolution of 2800×1260 pixels. This ensures crystal-clear content visibility, with the flexibility to switch to a high-definition resolution of 2400x1080p for conserving battery life. The device adheres to premium smartphone standards with a 120Hz refresh rate, contributing to smooth interactions and efficient battery management through the Smart Switch feature.

Sunlight legibility is commendable, providing a satisfactory viewing experience in varying lighting conditions. The display itself is vibrant, presenting bright and vivid colors that enhance gaming and content consumption. The responsiveness of the touch interface adds another layer to the overall user experience. There are no complaints regarding the display, as it delivers exceptional brightness, vibrant colors, and responsive touch functionality.

Photography Prowess:

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the Vivo X100 Pro lies in its camera capabilities. The rear camera setup is nothing short of impressive, featuring a 50MP ZEISS primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP ZEISS APO Floating telephoto camera. The innovative ZEISS APO Floating mechanism allows dynamic movement for precise focusing at varying distances, showcasing Vivo’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of mobile photography.

The camera interface is intuitive, offering a range of modes and settings for users to explore. From the default photo mode capturing stunning images to ultra-wide shots with no distortion at the edges, the X100 Pro excels in delivering sharp and crisp images. Optical zoom extends up to 4.3x, with digital zoom reaching an impressive 100x. Even at higher digital zoom levels, the device maintains sharpness and clarity in captured shots.

In low-light conditions, a common challenge for many smartphones, the X100 Pro stands out by delivering noise-free and vivid images. Whether indoors with minimal lighting or outdoors under streetlights, the colors appear accurate with no discernible noise, contributing to a consistently impressive photographic experience.

Macro photography is simplified with the onboard zoom lens, allowing users to capture intricate details without physically getting closer to the subject. The camera system supports various color profiles, catering to individual preferences and enhancing the customization experience.

Beyond traditional photography modes, the X100 Pro introduces innovative features such as Food mode for culinary captures and an Astro Mode catering to celestial photography enthusiasts. The video capabilities are equally impressive, with the device capturing videos in 8k resolution at 30fps. The inclusion of a voice enhancer setting proves valuable, particularly in outdoor settings where ambient sounds are effectively captured.

The front camera, with its 32MP resolution, delivers clear and vibrant selfies, although it naturally falls short when compared to the quality of shots captured by the rear camera.

Reflecting on the overall camera performance, the X100 Pro excels not only in capturing impressive moon shots but also in delivering breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, showcasing its versatility.

Powerful Performance:

Powering the X100 Pro is the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset, a choice that might raise eyebrows given the prevalence of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors in flagship devices. However, in our review unit equipped with 16GB of RAM and a spacious 512GB of internal storage, the device demonstrated robust performance across various usage scenarios.

Running on FunTouch OS 14 based on Android 14, the user interface appears clean, with apps neatly organized in the app tray. The device handled everything smoothly, exhibiting no signs of lag even during extended periods of photography, videography, gaming, or multitasking. To manage heat effectively, Vivo incorporated a vapour chamber cooling system into the design.

Supporting all this high-performance capability is a robust 5,400mAh battery. In real-world usage involving extensive camera usage, social media engagement, web browsing, gaming, emails, video calls, and more, the battery lasted through a full day. By dinner time, a full charge had dwindled to 15 percent. For those with longer days, carrying the bundled fast charger is advisable. The included fast charger ensures that the phone can be fully charged in just a little over 30 minutes, providing a quick and convenient solution for maintaining optimal battery levels.
