Wireless power and its Types

Wireless power or WTP is the transmission of energy from one source to another. Mostly being from a power source to an electrical load where power is needed.  This works without the need of the wired conductors. The wireless power technology works using different means mostly being electric, magnetic or electromagnetic fields.

The wireless technology was first invented by an English scientist Michael Faraday which was introduced with the help of inductive charging through a magnetic field. This technology has removed the needs of wires and it has helped in places where wires are inconvenient.

How it works:

The wireless power technology works with the help of two parties. One is a transmitter coil and the other is the receiver coil. The current generated in the transmitter coil generates magnetic field which brings in or induces a voltage towards the receiver coil inturn transmitting power wirelessly.

How this technology is used in charging the gadgets wirelessly?

The electric current is transmitted through the primary coil which is located in the charging station (Transmitter coil) and the electric current generated in it is transmitted as voltage to the receiver coil. So when the phone is placed on the wireless charger port, it induces a power towards the device with wireless charging feature which in turn charges the phone itself. This wireless charging technology is also known as inductive charging. 

What exactly is Radio Frequency Wireless Charging?

This wireless charging technology uses the radio frequencies to charge a device. This works with the help of a transmitter which transmits RF waves. And the transmitted RF waves is picked up by a receiver and converts them into DC voltage. With the near field of the RF wireless charging, the transmitter and receiver are not restricted by coils like the one on the inductive charging where the transmitter and the receiver must be placed closely for the energy to transmit. So the RF wireless charging technology can thereby work without cords making the process simpler and eco friendly.

Far Field Wireless Charging is based on the release of RF waves in the open environment, like the technology of WiFi. The device will get charged, if it’s within the range.

Inductive Charging:

This wireless technology get holds of two things. The transmitter and the receiver. This uses the help of the electromagnetic field that is created during the load of charge is sent. The electromagnetic field is received by the receiver thereby charging the device.
