Chinese giant Xiaomi has become the second largest vendor in India after selling three million units of Redmi 3S (including Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi 3S+) in less than six months of time. This unprecedented success of Redmi phones has played the biggest contribution in the surge of the company last quarter. The Chinese company’s online market dominance continues with it retaining the top spot in India.
According to IDC’s India quarterly report, it climbed up to 2nd place with 10.7 percent market share in the fourth quarter of 2016 increasing exponentially from 3.3 percent a year before. Xiaomi also ventured into offline market with an exclusive model or the retail market. Xiaomi ventured into the Indian market in July 2014 coming up with high quality devices at minimal prices. It disrupted the smartphone industry and played a major role in the pricing strategies we see today. With its Redmi series, it redefined the below 10K category of smartphones which outdid the competition and with very good word of mouth, it saw an exponential growth in the Indian market.
Launched in August 2016, Redmi 3S and 3S Prime became highly successful with high sales. People looking for budget smartphone below 10k to satisfy their needs were behind it and made Xiaomi successful in India. Soon after this, Xiaomi launched Redmi 3S +, the offline variant which expanded the company’s horizons to small towns and villages.
